3 Things to Look for in an Assisted Living Facility

Making the decision to place an aging parent in an assisted living facility is a big step and at LakePoint Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, we want to help you make the best decision. Here are three things we recommend you look for when you are looking for an assisted living facility for your aging parents.

Safety and Security Features

The safety and security of your parents while they are living in an assisted living facility is understandably going to be your primary concern. If your parent needs wheelchair accessibility, go through and check for ramps and grab bars as needed to accommodate your parents and other residents who require these accommodations.

Outdoor Space

Your parents will feel more comfortable if they are able to step outside every once in a while for a breath of fresh air or just to enjoy some time in the sunlight. Check for clean outdoor space and inquire whether there are outdoor activities available at the facility. Ultimately, if your parents are indoors all day, they are likely to feel cooped up or caged.

Overall Cleanliness

Observe the overall cleanliness of the facility, both indoors and out. Is the outdoor space littered with trash? You want to make sure that the staff is investing time in keeping the grounds clean and making both the indoor and outdoor space safe for all the residents.
