3 Types of Nursing Homes to Avoid

Even if you like to see the best in everyone in every situation, choosing a nursing home for your loved one isn’t the time to put on your rose-colored glasses. It’s important to be thorough and know all about the home you choose before committing. Here are 3 types of nursing homes to avoid at all costs.

Ones That Are Understaffed

It’s essential that there are sufficient numbers of trained staff to each resident. Look into the ratio laws of each state and make sure to ask how many residents they have versus employees thoroughly trained to care for them.

Ones with Negative Health and Safety Reports

When you visit various nursing homes, ask each one if you can see their most recent state and Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services surveys. They should be able to locate them quickly and be more than willing to let you see them. If they have bad results or they don’t have it available for you to view, keep looking.

Ones That Don’t Answer Your Questions Thoroughly

If you tour a facility in person or call on the phone to learn more, make sure to come up with a list of questions to ask beforehand. If they can’t answer all of your questions or seem put out doing so, you can find someplace better!
