Choosing a Quality Assisted Living Community

There are many reasons to find a high quality assisted living center for a loved one. Here at LakePoint Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, we give the following top 5 things to look for when you are touring various prospective facilities.

Feels Like Home

When you walk into the assisted living facility, pay attention to whether it feels home-like. An environment that is too loud or too unkempt might make your loved one feel uncomfortable.

Happy Residents

Another thing to look for is whether the residents there appear happy. Look to see if they are socializing with each other and seem to be enjoying themselves. This is your best indication of how your loved one will feel living at the assisted living center.

Kind Staff

Be very aware of how you and your loved one are treated when you walk in. Make note of whether the staff treats you and the residents well, and whether residents and guests are greeted by name.

The first thing you are likely to notice as you are touring is the location. You will probably want to see how close the facility is to your own home, as well as its proximity to the hospital and other places that your loved one will need to go.

Outward Appearance

The curb appeal of every facility is important. The grounds should be well kept, the walks clear of snow and debris, and no safety hazards. It is perfectly okay to judge an assisted living facility by the outside.
