How to Make Your Loved One’s Room Personalized

Moving into a nursing home or assisted living facility can be a difficult transition for your loved one, but there are a few things you can do to make it a little easier.

Bring Family Pictures

The best way to personalize your loved one’s new home is to fill their room with pictures of family and people who love them. Specifically, get pictures that were hanging up in their previous home to give them even more familiarity as they make the transition. They will love looking at pictures of their loved ones every day, and it will definitely set their room apart from the rest.

Make It Homey

Nursing home decor is similar to hotel decor. It’s nice for a while, but if they’re staying in the nursing home long-term, it’ll be nice for them to have decor to make it feel more like a home. Bring throw pillows that fit their style, pretty paintings, or even bright-colored curtains.

Even if their room already has something, don’t be afraid to replace it with something they’ll like even better. Just make sure to talk with the staff about what you want to do before you do it. They will more than likely be very supportive of your desire to turn your loved one’s surroundings into a home, as long as it won’t hinder their abilities to assist your loved one in case of an emergency.
